Search sociology topics in library research databases

On the previous page, you have links to my favorite library databases for searching articles on current events, finding information on countries, and locating streaming films.

The databases below are places to search sociology topics for for scholarly articles:

Academic OneFile (Gale) Covers a wide selection of academic disciplines. Search for keywords, authors, titles, or subjects. Try using search operators like ‘AND’, quotation marks, and wildcards, which are explained below the Advanced Search bars in the Search Tips. Under the Search Limiters, check off “Peer-Reviewed Journals” if you need these sorts of articles. PRO TIP: The search results page has more search filters on the left (publication date, subjects, etc.) and resource categories at the top (academic, magazines, books, etc.).
Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) Covers a wide selection of academic disciplines. Search for keywords, authors, titles, or subjects. Try adding AND between words for results with both words, or OR between words for results with either or both words. Add quotation marks around phrases to search for the exact phrase. In the Search Options, check off “Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals” if you need articles from these. Check off “Full Text” to only find materials with the full text available.
JSTOR Content and images from back issues of notable humanities and social science journals. Also a good place to find primary sources. Use the search bar on the homepage, the Search dropdown menu, or the Browse dropdown menu at the top of the page to find sources. With Browse, you can often find lists of primary sources under journals, books, and/or research reports, or image collections.
Criminal Justice Database (ProQuest) Covers a wide variety of criminal justice topics, including crime, corrections, law enforcement, criminal law, and more. Type a keyword, title, author, or subject in the search box on the home page. Check off “Full text” to only find materials with the full text available, and check off “Peer reviewed” if this is a requirement. In the search result pages are more search limits, such as source type (scholarly journals, newspapers), publication date, subject, etc. PRO TIP: Once you’ve clicked on an item, there are related items listed on the right side of the page to aid in your research, along with a bibliography/references at the bottom of the page (if provided)
Sage Journals Contains journals in the humanities, sciences, social sciences, medicine, and more. Use the search bar in the top middle of the homepage for a title, keyword, author, or subject. Or “Browse Journals By Discipline” from thehomepage, narrowing down discipline and subject to get a list of journals. Or click the “Explore Discipline Hubs” button to find a specific discipline and all materials that fall under it.

1. Use the search bar for a title, keyword, author, or subject.
2. Or, use the link, Browse Journals by Discipline, narrowing down the discipline and subject for a list of journals.
3. Or, click Explore Discipline Hubs
  to find a specific discipline and all materials that fall under it.
Discipline pages include Search Within Discipline Journals; sub-topic journals;open access journals; books, videos, and podcasts; and more.

Scholarly Articles 101

Anatomy of a Scholarly Article (interactive diagram) Select the highlighted areas to learn about the different parts of a scholarly article, such as: title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion and conclusion, works cited (references or bibliography).
