I recently completed my doctorate in educational technology at the University of Florida and am a librarian at Hillsborough Community College.
My dissertation examined the difference in student performance on library and research assignments in an online course with different timing and duration of an online embedded librarian.
I am interested in the integration of information literacy in the curriuculm to ensure students have the skills to be successful lifelong learners. A particular interest is the role of the library in distance education.
From my work as an online student and my involvement as an advisor with student clubs at HCC, I have a strong interest in the role of social networking tools for community building.
I completed my library degree program in 2001. I originally explored the library profession as a way to combine my interests in customer service and research. Being a librarian has certainly proved a great way to combine these two interests. When I became a community college librarian, I discovered that I needed to know more about education and technology in order to better serve my students and colleagues.
