Welcome to the HCC Libraries Civic Literacy Guide!

This guide provides resources and study materials for HCC's Civic Literacy competency exam. Use the tabs on left or the buttons at the bottom to navigate through the guide. Many of the sources are "open access", which means they are freely available on the Internet. However, HCC Libraries resources require NetID log in access.

  • AMH 2020 Modern American History - 3 Credits
    Provides a study of United States development from the period of Reconstruction to the present. Topics include politics, economics, geography, social issues and reforms as related to contemporary society. Prerequisites: College level reading and writing skills are required.
  • POS 2041 American Government - 3 Credits
    Covers the structure and function of the American government, the dynamics of political change and contemporary issues. Prerequisites: College level reading and writing skills are required.
