Need a Laptop? Borrow One from the Library!

The Student Laptop Lending Program provides access to technology for students who need it for academic success. While laptops are available for short-term use (14 days plus an additional 14 days with renewal), they're designed to bridge technology gaps rather than replace personal devices.

Quick Start Steps

  1. Read and sign the Student Laptop Loan Agreement online form
  2. Visit any HC Campus Library to borrow a Laptop Kit
  3. Borrow any Laptop Accessories you may need
  4. Review the Laptop FAQs for information about the loan process
  5. Contact your Campus HawkTechs with any questions or issues

Important Loan Policies

Read these before borrowing a laptop!

  • Laptops can be borrowed for up to 14 days
  • You may renew your laptop once for an additional 14 days through your library account
  • After the original loan + renewal (14 days + 14 days) the laptop must be returned
  • You must return the laptop to the same campus library where you borrowed it
  • Returns to other campus libraries will not be accepted
  • Laptop, charger, AND carrying case must be returned together
  • Overdue laptops are remotely disabled (frozen) after the due date
  • A hold will be placed on your student account, possibly preventing registration
  • Overdue laptops will remain frozen until they are returned, or the lost fee is paid

Laptop Loan Basics

  • Any students currently enrolled in for-credit courses at Hillsborough College
  • Your library account must be in good standing (no overdue/lost items)
  • All students must first read and sign the Student Laptop Loan Agreement
  • Hardware includes:
    • Dell Latitude 3450 laptop
    • Accompanying charger
    • Carrying bag
  • Software includes:
    • Microsoft Windows operating system
    • Microsoft Office 365 Suite
    • Web browsers: Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome
  • Compatible with Honorlock online test proctoring (browser plugin)
  • Note: Students cannot install additional software on these devices

You can borrow a laptop starting on the first day of your first class each semester.

  • Free loan of laptops and accessories to eligible HCC students
  • Laptops are loaned as a kit that includes a laptop, charger, and carrying bag
  • Laptops are intended for academic use

While You Have the Laptop

  • The standard loan period is 14-days (2 weeks)
  • You can renew the loan once for an additional 14-days (2 weeks)
  • You are responsible for all components during the loan
  • Yes! You must return the laptop to the same campus library where you borrowed it
  • Returns to other campus libraries will not be accepted
  • Plan ahead to ensure you can return to the original borrowing location
  • You may renew once per loan if done before the due date
  • To renew online:
    1. Log into your HC Library Account
    2. Go to "LOANS"
    3. Find your laptop loan and click "Renew"
    4. Confirm your new due date appears
  • Renewals are subject to availability and account standing
  • Back up your files (data will be erased)
  • Return all components:
    • Laptop
    • Charger
    • Bag

Return the laptop in person to the same campus library where it was checked out.

  • You may receive reminders via email
  • It is your responsibility to track the due date

Laptop Loan Policies and Support

  • Overdue laptops will be remotely disabled (frozen) after the due date
  • Laptops will remain remotely disabled until they are returned, or the lost fee is paid
  • A financial hold will be placed on your student account which can prevent registration
  • You may be charged for repair or replacement costs for damaged or lost laptops
  • HC does not support personal software installations
  • Test proctoring software/plug-ins such as Honorlock can be added

You must return the laptop within 2 business days of withdrawing from all classes.

  • For laptop issues, contact your Campus HawkTechs
    • HawkTechs do not provide support for personal devices

The HC Library Laptop Loan Program is collaborative project through the Office of Academic Affairs and includes support from the Online Learning (OL) department, the Office of Information Technology (OIT), as well as Campus Leadership teams.
