English 1102 and Library Collaboration: In Class Assignments

This is a guide created for the GA Information Literacy Conference September 25-26, 2009.

Using the Brown Books

Using the Contemporary Literary Criticism and Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism

Students are shown the sets of criticism that are available in print in the library. Each student gets a randomly selected volume to use during the orientation. We look through the volume together - pointing out parts of each entry. Then each student works alone for 5-10 minutes to answer the following questions using their volume.

  • What is one author listed in your book of criticism?
  • What is the topic (or title) of one of the essays?
  • Where can you find additional information?
