Hillsborough Community College Launches AI Open Educational Resources (OER) Creation Program

AI OER CREATION PROGRAM – FACULTY COMMITMENTS:

  • Submit a project proposal.  (See OER Creation Program Application below)
  • Meet regularly with OER Committee representatives for technical support and advice..
  • Complete the AI OER Creation Program: Faculty Certification course developed in-house.
  • Develop a fully accessible ZTC learning resource in HCC Pressbooks, licensed CC BY-NC.
  • Share AI prompts, strategies, and submit four reflections on the creation process.
  • Complete all deliverables within six months

  • ChatGPT Pro (Team) license for the project duration
  • HCC Pressbooks account with support
  • SUPPORT PROVIDED BY INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS, ACCESSIBILITY EXPERTS, LIBRARIANS

KEY LESSONS LEARNED AND RESULTS

Empowering creative, knowledgeable individuals with (AI) tools and support boosts productivity and drives innovation and can lead to remarkable results. Faculty loved the process, and it has increased faculty engagement around OER.  Faculty were able to create complete open textbooks within six months. 

Plans for upgrading the program: 

  • Offer refresher training on copyright compliance.
  • Offer refresher training on digital accessibility
  • Offer training on how to use and license AI content
