Finding French-Language Materials (Ybor City): Watch French Films

Qu'est ce que c'est ?

The Advanced Library Search instructions on the Home page show you how to search the Library for French-language materials based on your keywords, and then narrow down your results by available formats, i.e. book, eBook, article, video,, eBook, article, video, etc.

If you want to search just for films in French, this page will help you find them, whether they are in DVDs on the shelf, or streaming online.

Some Examples of French-Language DVDs in the Library

DVDs are located in YLRC-202, on the south side of the library. Feel free to ask a staff member for help.

Search for All Types of Films

You can search for only French-language films online, and on DVD in the library, by using the Advanced Library Search.

As instructed on the Home page, when you type in your keywords, select the Language. Then, for Material Type, select Audio/Visual Material.

NOTE:  If you are searching for a particular title, put "quotation marks" around the keywords, to search the title words together as a phrase. This will improve your results.

For example, "The Last Metro" with quotation marks will search for the 1980 film originally entitled, Le dernier métro. A search for The Last Metro with no quotation marks brings up films that have the keywords last and metro somewhere in the title or description, but are not necessarily the Truffaut film. See the difference?

Online Videos

You can search for just online videos in French—mostly documentaries and educational films, plus a few cinematic movies—in an online video database.

If you are prompted to log in, refer to the HCC ID & Library Log-In tab for help.
