As technology changes how we access information, the academic library adapts. The HCC Libraries offer access to feature films and documentaries through online library databases. The databases listed in this section are licensed based, meaning faculty need to request films and the library either approves or denies films for access. Film requests must be academic related to the pedagogy/andragogy curriculum for registered classes and assignments.
The HCC Librarians have the right to deny any film request. Per the HCC Library Collection Development Policy:
Input is encouraged with the understanding that all recommendations must be approved by the librarians before purchase and that budget constraints may limit the number of items that can be purchased... If materials are determined to be appropriate for the collection and if the budget allows, the materials will be recommended for purchase.
Most of the library databases are based on an annual subscription that are either paid for by HCC or by the State. However, with the onset of streaming media, some streaming content are available only through an individual license subscription that needs to be renewed every year. SWANK, Kanopy and some Docuseek content need to be requested by faculty. See How to Request a Film for instructions.
