Ybor City: Tampa, Florida's Latin Quarter: Mutual Aid Societies

A History of the Cuban Club and Ybor City

The Cuban Club was one of the mutual aid societies formed by immigrant groups during Ybor City's heyday as a cigar manufacturing center. This documentary (19:33), sponsored by University of South Florida (USF) Libraries and other local institutions, recounts and dramatizes the district's colorful history from the perspective of this landmark institution. The late Angelo Pérez, retired HCC-Ybor City Campus dean and faculty member, served as an adviser to this film. Produced by Costa Creative Group. Funded in part by the Florida Humanities Council and the University of South Florida.
