Slidecast: Old Slides - from July'08 Webcast for CCLA
Content in these slides is outdated. They are here only to demonstrate an embedded slidecast (slideshow with audio) on the social media site, Slideshare. My current slides are at the right. [[
When CCLA asked me to do a webcast about HCC's usage of LibGuides, I set out to create a companion LibGuide that would utilize/demonstrate some of the system's features while providing content about it. Right about that time, I learned about Slidecasting, so I signed up with Slideshare to upload my PowerPoint presentation. It was the perfect opportunity to (finally) teach myself podcasting - and to use all these free social media sites that I hadn't tried yet. I recorded an audio file using Audacity, streamed it with the slides on Internet Archive, then inserted the final product in the Embedded Video/Audio box. So, this slidecast actually plays like a video, with sound. Click here for some tips.
NOTE: These slides are from 2008 - current slides are in the box on the right.

Old Slides - PPT Show (in "Documents" Box)
Slides only - no animation or audio. This is the "Documents/Files" box type, which is for uploading an MS-Office, or similar, document (up to 2MB).
***My personal favorite display method is with Google Docs, up on the Right***
New Slides - in Google Docs Viewer
Here's the current presentation (as of: 08/10/09) utilizing Google Docs as the display method. Disclaimer.
How I did it: (1) Uploaded to Google Docs then saved. (2) After uploading, opened the file in Google Docs - this brings up the "share" tab in the upper-right corner. (3) Clicked "share" tab, then "publish/embed" to generate code. (4) Copy/pasted code into the Embedded Video/Audio box.
No audio...but it creates a nifty little viewer...and if you hit the "play" button, it will run an automatic show, pausing for about 5sec on each slide.
To view full screen (no automatic show): Click"open in new window" (the little box next to the slide number display at the bottom)...then "view published presentation in a new window" to get the full screen...then press the F-11 key. Caution.
