What's In This Guide

Hello! I am a librarian with Hillsborough Community College (HCC) in Tampa, FL. The original version of this guide accompanied a July 2008 webcast, Using LibGuides to Share and Connect With Students, conducted for the College Center for Library Automation (now FLVC). HCC was the first community college in Florida to sign on with LibGuides.***

This guide was later modified to supplement two break-out sessions at the SEFLIN Regional Conference, New Technologies: Libraries and Beyond, in July, 2009. I was honored to have worked with Joanne Cameron of Palm Beach State College on that project.

In this guide you'll see how HCC and other institutions are using LibGuides. Throughout the guide you'll see "how I did it," i.e. system features, custom HTML coding, embedded social media, etc., that I used to create the object you're currently viewing.

*** Much has changed in the lifespan of this guide, in particular: LibGuides V2 and LibGuides CMS. As for Version 1, which this guide addressed when I first created it in 2008, Springshare kept improving their great customer service and adding new functionalities. Therefore, the need or reason for this guide is moot. So, I just keep it as long as my institution is still on Version1; it is my own "how-to" notebook of tips and tricks - and booksmark to some great help from other librarians in the LibGuides community, and on Springshare's staff.

Happy Trails!
